6 Myths Keeping You from Being "Fit"

Janine Lahr | FEB 26

The first thing women toss off their plate when time gets tight is exercise.

So this week I got to thinking. Why is that?

And here is what I came up with…

  • You think you need to be doing whatever the latest trend is on social media or it's not doing anything.

  • You’re a slave to your fitness tracker because someone told you, you need to burn "this" amount calories or have so many steps in for it to even count.

  • You think if someone isn’t in your face directly screaming at you to GO GO GO, you’ll never get the a** you want, so just forget it.

  • You’re afraid it’s “been too long”.

  • Exercise has turned into a chore and who the heck wants to add one more of those to their list.

  • You think everyone else's needs come above your own. (ohhh, that one hits home)

Not only have we been conditioned to think there is only one way to "workout" (which, ironically changes almost yearly with our trend setting unforgiving society), but we get in our own way because we think we have to either do it the way we used to or we have to do it the way someone else is doing it, even though we have absolutely no interest in moving our body that way.

That in itself is discouraging. No wonder it's the first thing off the list.

But the truth is...living a fit life doesn't start with marking down how many days you worked out, logging your calorie counts every single day, keeping up with your “fittest” or “skinniest” friend/social influencer, or having someone beating you into the ground until you bleed…you get my gist.

It’s starts with embracing and connecting to the body you live in TODAY.

Not the body you once lived in.

Not the body you want tomorrow.

The body you are in RIGHT NOW.

That body, <<First Name>>, is AMAZING!

It gives you LIFE.

And if you're a mom, it means it gave someone else LIFE.

That is freaking AMAZING!

(pause)

(no seriously, pause)

Because your body deserves a moment and...a standing ovation.

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Ok, let's continue because...

When you connect to who you are in THIS moment, then you can have an honest conversation with yourself about what you & your body need.

Talking truth here...I don’t have time to dedicate to working out like I once did.

ME!

The fitness pro. The one who LOVES this sh*t.

And you know what…thats’ ok.

Because when I do have time, I'm fully in it. I'm not saying every time is a mega calorie burner or I'm literally kickin' my own butt with everything I have.

There is a balance of getting every muscle in my body moving, to simply taking time to listen to my breathing, to challenge myself physically yet letting go equally as much, and sharing the energy with the other JBirds in class.

It's the ultimate ME time.

I do things I enjoy. Choose movement that wakes me up.

Movement that challenges me yet gives me energy...because you and I both know, this life.. juggling "all the things" (work, family, home..., for me, my dog, Buddy LOL) It's a lot and needs energy.

I've lived through the "No Pain No Gain", the "Before/After Picture ads",  and the "Don't Do This/Do This Instead" eras.

But I going to continue to say NO to the negative speak & imagery and...

Say YES! to tuning inward to enjoy living in the body I wake up with every morning. And I'm encouraging you to do the same.

Enjoy the body you have.
Give it credit where credit is do.
Chose movement and YES! exercise you actually enjoy.
Make exercise, fitness, movement, and all the words, a time you treat yourself to getting to know yourself better.

Because...the body you live in every single day is amazing.

You Are Amazing!
Embrace it!
Enjoy it!
